From the PresidentGreetings to you all. As most of you know we have moved our annual meeting to April 28, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. This will surely give all of you that are not early risers a break. I hope that as many of you as possible can attend. We need to hear from you. Your Texas 500 Club has offered you, as a member, such things as this newsletter and the mail-o-graphic tournament. Do you want the newsletter? Does it give you the information you want? Do you read it? This year we only had 30 entries in the mail-o-graphic tournament. Was it because you didn’t know about it or are you not interested?? These are just some of the things we need feed back on. This is your club and we are here to serve you. Many changes are taking place in our sport. We can either sit back and let it come or be a part of starting a new era. I, personally, want to participate it what is to come. My first year in office as your president has been a challenge to say the least. I want you to know that I consider it an honor and privilege to serve this membership. We hope to see you in April. Ellen M. White President

NOMINATING COMMITTEE TO TEXAS 500 CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS Please be advised that the following positions are up for election this year. PRESIDENT SERGEANT-AT-ARMS DIRECTOR #4 DIRECTOR #8 DIRECTOR #9 The incumbents for these positions are: Ellen White, Denton President Collen Gore, Fort Worth Sergeant-At-Arms Jeanette Bradfield, San Antonio Director Betty Williams, Austin Director Veta Bruce, Dallas Director Eligibility and Qualifications
Current make up of the board is 2-Denton, 2- Fort Worth, 1 Dallas, 1 Austin, 1 Lubbock, 2 Pasadena, 2 Hidalgo, 1 Temple, 2 San Antonio. Nomination letters and credentials may be mailed and must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2006 to: Melissa Pingry, Chairperson Texas 500 Nominating Committee 4201 Fairmont Pkwy #2009 Pasadena, TX. 77504 HOW GREAT IS OUR SPORT!!!!Katrina had come and gone leaving behind great paths of destruction and affecting our nation. Rita followed this. In September our Youth and the management of Holiday Lanes, Denton TX got together and raised/donated $525.00 for the Texas Baptist Men, an organization of volunteers that go and assist those in need at a time of disaster. Now along comes Wilma with her 172 mile an hour winds heading for Florida. We had a parent meeting of the Youth League and decided to have benefit fundraiser. We agreed on Youth/Adult tournament with all proceeds again going to the Texas Baptist Men. What a time we had. We even had a lane with Bumpers for the children that wanted to bowl but were too small to hold the ball. There were two squads, a total of 72 participants. Two centers in Denton County allowed us to advertise the tournament. We had donations for raffles which included a bowling bag, center piece arrangements, homemade blankets, Pampered Chef items, a basket of Mary Kay and a cruise to the Bahamas donated by Linda Ogden, an independent associate of Cash N Card Worldwide. The SHW Group donated the back end of a pick-up filled with food and diapers. The winners of the three divisions were given new bowling pins signed by Lynda Barnes, Chris Barnes and Del Ballard. Working together we raised another $715.00 for the Texas Baptist Men. We could not have done it without the help from Holiday Lanes, owned by Ted Johnson and managed by Larry Lehrman. Our lineage for three games was a total of $7.00 for the Youth/Adult team. This enabled many to participate in both squads. I strongly urge each of you that work with the youth to get them involved in some sort of community service. What a great opportunity we have to not only teach them the “sport” of bowling, good sportsmanship and the fun of competition but also help them become a better adult by helping others. When we say that bowlers are a “family” it means from the smallest/youngest to the oldest. Our sport is one anyone can compete in regardless of size, gender, age or abilities. This is the reason for my continued passion and support for this sport. I hope this will inspire you to do and feel the same. Ellen M. White
PowerThere is something attractive about power to some people. They steadily and sometimes stealthily seek it to get their own way, to get whatever is wanted, whenever it is wanted. Power without nobility of thinking, calm reasoning and genuine humility flounders in arrogance. When arrogance defies questioning, beclouds goals, and limits freedom of choice, power is corrupted. George Bernard Shaw was right when he said “Power does not corrupt men; fools however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power.” Domination has always been a problem among humans. It probably always will be. Since domination indicates power, power must be incessantly watched. When a lust for power is seen or sensed, caution is necessary. Common sense tells us it is a matter of self-preservation, for unchecked power has all too often resulted in misused power. A quote from Socrates seems fitting these days: “The only people who deserve to be given power are those who do not want it.” Author Unknown
“The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together the club won’t be worth a dime.” Babe Ruth
“Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past are certain to miss the future!” John F. Kennedy
